Inside Out...Walls.

We decided on spray foam insulation for the exterior walls.  This should seal every thing the last 100 years has opened.  Now if we can do the same to the first floor, we'll be much warmer in the winter.  in due time...in due time.

As the final coats of Spackle go on and the first layers of Primer, we are getting more excited each day.  Floors are ordered and Monica had spent days working on paint color.  We order the tile next and get closer to completion.  Unfortunately, as Monica like to point out, we still need to get furniture.  Oh well, we can at least celebrate how far we've come.

I know windows shouldn't be such a big deal but they make 

me happy.

Here's our new window for the bedoom. (Front, Oceanside)  This is the only 
window we made major changes to.
We wanted something high so we can put a bed against the wall but still get plenty of ocean breeze.

New smaller and higher windows in the stairs.   Finally no longer a safety issue.

Here comes the framing!!  We decided to add transoms over he doorways . I can't wait to see those completed.

Wide Open Spaces

WIDE OPEN SPACES.

In all of our earlier discussions on renovating the second floor, not once did the idea
of gutting the entire floor at once come up. After Sandy, we were anxious to get going on "our space", so we applied for a line of credit and decided to big.  Here's a look at what the second floor looks like after gutting.

Front room looking toward the bay side.  Here's where the fun begins.  The beam overhead was "pieced" together with various length and size wood.  We always knew something was up here.  aWe're just glad it didn't come down.

More fun.  If you look closely at the left side ceiling you'll see those beams don't actually rest on anything.  They stop just shy of the left wall.  It's not horrific, it just means the center wall is bearing ALL the weight.

We really wanted to know why there is a prominent dip in the attic floor.  It started off gradual but since we've been living up there it has gotten much more pronounced.  Now we know why.  If you look at the grid work ok wood supporting the floor above you'll see, yet again, nothing rests on any real support.  It just kind of hangs there.

In an effort to level the floor throughout as much as possible, most of the floor needed to go and in the bathroom we need to get to the plumbing.  Little did we know what was underneath.

If you're saying to yourself that looks like cement, you would be right.  Thankfully it's only in the bathroom.

Back corner, bayside.  In an effort to gain a little more space in what will be the main bathroom, we are moving the wall that separates the bedroom and bathroom about a foot or so into the bedroom. The room will smaller but we think it's necessary.  Although with the addition of a door and balcony it will make a very nice office/guest room.
